JDM House ("we", "us", "our") sells JDM performance parts, wheels and tyres online at www.jdmhouse.com.au and fits tyres and does wheel alignments at our workshop at 2/14 Hilldon Court, Nerang QLD 4211.

We're bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can access it, correct it or complain if you think we've got it wrong. It's written to be read, not to be survived.

What we collect

We only collect personal information we actually need to sell you parts, fit your tyres and run the business.

When you buy something or book work with us:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and delivery and billing addresses
  • What you ordered, when, and how much you paid
  • Payment information — note that card numbers go straight to our payment providers and are not stored by us or visible to us
  • Vehicle details you give us (make, model, year, wheel and tyre sizes, ride height, modifications) so we can confirm fitment and set up an alignment correctly

When you contact us:

  • Your name and contact details, plus whatever is in your enquiry, email, phone call or social media message

When you use our website:

  • Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed and what you clicked, and how you arrived at our site
  • Information from cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies and analytics" below)

If you sign up to marketing:

  • Your email address and/or mobile number, and what you've opened or clicked

We don't collect sensitive information (such as health information) and we'd ask you not to send it to us.

How we collect it

Mostly directly from you — when you place an order, create an account, book a fitting, fill in a form, email us, ring us or message us on Facebook or Instagram.

We also collect some information automatically when you browse our site, and we may receive information from third parties such as Shopify (our e-commerce platform), our payment providers, freight companies, and advertising and analytics providers.

Why we collect and use it

We use your personal information to:

  • Process and fulfil your order, take payment and issue receipts and tax invoices
  • Arrange freight and let you and the courier sort out delivery
  • Book and carry out tyre fitting, balancing, puncture repairs and wheel alignments
  • Give you fitment and product advice for your specific vehicle
  • Answer your questions and handle returns, warranty claims and complaints
  • Detect and prevent fraud and chargebacks
  • Keep the records we're legally required to keep, including tax records
  • Improve our website, product range and service
  • Send you marketing, if you've asked for it (see below)

If you don't give us the information we ask for, we may not be able to supply the product or complete the work.

Direct marketing

We'll only send you marketing emails or messages if you've opted in, or if you've bought from us and it's the kind of thing you'd reasonably expect to hear about. Every marketing message has an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply or email us and ask to be taken off the list. We'll action it promptly.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't rent or trade our customer list.

Who we disclose it to

We share personal information only with parties who need it to do a job for us:

  • Shopify — our e-commerce and checkout platform, which hosts our store and order data
  • Payment providers — including Shopify Payments, PayPal, Afterpay, Zip or similar, depending on how you choose to pay. They handle your card details directly under their own privacy policies
  • Freight and courier companies — we pass on your name, delivery address and phone number so they can deliver your order and contact you about delivery
  • Suppliers and manufacturers — where we need to raise a warranty claim on your behalf
  • Analytics and advertising providers — such as Google and Meta, where those tools are running on our site, so we can understand how the site is used and advertise to relevant audiences
  • Email and marketing platforms — if you've subscribed
  • Our accountants, bookkeepers, insurers and professional advisers
  • Law enforcement or government agencies — where we're required or authorised by law

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers above store or process data outside Australia. In particular, Shopify (which hosts our store) stores data on servers in Canada, the United States and other countries where its infrastructure operates, and Google and Meta process data in the United States and elsewhere.

Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Cookies and analytics

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary — they keep you logged in, remember what's in your cart, and let checkout work. Others help us measure how the site is performing or show you our ads on other websites.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, parts of the site — including the cart and checkout — will stop working properly.

Payments and security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. Our site runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, our store platform is managed by Shopify, and card payments are processed by PCI-DSS compliant payment providers. We don't store your full card number.

No system is perfect, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If we ever have a data breach that's likely to cause you serious harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, and for as long as the law requires — for example, we're required to keep sales and tax records for at least seven years. After that we destroy it or de-identify it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it's wrong or out of date. Just email sales@jdmhouse.com.au and tell us what you need. We'll normally respond within 30 days, and we won't charge you for making the request.

We may need to verify your identity before we hand anything over. If we can't give you access for a reason permitted under the Privacy Act, we'll tell you why in writing.

You can also ask us to delete your personal information. We'll do that where we're able to, but we may need to keep some records to meet our legal obligations.

Complaints

If you think we've mishandled your personal information or breached the Australian Privacy Principles, tell us first — email sales@jdmhouse.com.au with the details. We'll acknowledge your complaint, look into it and get back to you in writing, normally within 30 days.

If you're not happy with how we've handled it, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:

  • Website: www.oaic.gov.au
  • Phone: 1300 363 992
  • Post: GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy from time to time as our business or the law changes. The current version is always on this page, and the "last updated" date at the top tells you when it last changed.
